One of the most common tools of communication in modern practice (whether in commercial, professional or other enterprise) is the meeting. Decision-making is very often a result of minds communicating with each other at a meeting of some form or other. Used with skill and care, a meeting can be a very successful form of communication. Used without skill or care, a meeting can be a hindrance rather than a help. It is probably a reflection on the chairing of meetings more than anything else that, to some people, meetings are regarded as necessary evils to be avoided whenever possible and tolerated if unavoidable.
