The National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS)

A number of design-based building environment rating systems are now available in Australia and are likely to improve the environmental performance of buildings.  NABERS was developed by the Department of the Environment and Heritage as a measurement-based reporting tool, to verify the environmental performance of residential and office buildings that are in use.  Currently at the commercialisation stage, it is expected that NABERS will be complementary to existing design-based rating systems.  It will provide commercial and environmental benefits to building owners, lessees, building managers and investors.
