Long term illness or injury absences

(Previously known as Minimum wage review 2016 and other HR news)

Employers and employees are increasingly at loggerheads when it comes to employees being absent due to long term illness or injuries.  In 2016, the Moonee Valley Racing Club (MVRC) was found by the Fair Work Commission (FWC) to have unfairly dismissed an employee for failing to give the MVRC in depth information about the employee’s medical condition.  The case provides lessons for both employers and employees in managing leave for long term illness or injuries.
