Long service leave entitlements

The Institute of Architects HR advisory service often deals with questions regarding employees' entitlements to long service leave. Long service leave is a period of paid leave given to employees in recognition of long service and continuous employment with the same employer. Long service leave, however, is not currently a federal entitlement. Each state has its own unique legislation with differing entitlements. Many businesses will also have their own policy on long service leave that is more beneficial to an employee than the basic entitlement under state legislation. These entitlements may be found in employment contracts, enterprise agreements or the company HR policy.
