The NCC 2022 was published on 1 October 2022, via NCC online, and is now in force. States and territories adopted the NCC 2022 on 1 May 2023. Transition arrangements apply for some requirements, see here for more information.
The National Construction Code (NCC) is the guiding document for all building work and defines a number of specific requirements for providing access for people with disabilities particularly in Part D3 Access for People with Disabilities, Part E3.6 Passenger Lifts and Part F2.4 Accessible Sanitary facilities. The NCC references Australian Standards, particularly:
- AS 1428.1 Design for access and mobility – General requirements for access – New building work.
- AS/NZS 1428.4.1 Design for access and mobility – Means to assist the orientation of people with vision impairment – Tactile ground surface indicators, and
- AS/NZS 2890.6 Parking facilities – Off street parking for people with disabilities.
