Illustrations can be used for numerous stages within the project. Clients may request illustrations to assist with ‘selling’ the project for areas such as client boards and organisations, community members and stakeholders and for marketing purposes. Council and authorities may also request illustrations as a part of submission requirements.
The illustrations may be requested in the form of:
- 2D perspectives (artist's impression)
- 3D models
- 3D digital models including perspectives and 'fly throughs'
- digital animation.
The nature of the illustrations requested will vary from one project to the next and be influenced by the project itself. The Institute's Client and Architect Agreement recognises that architects are increasingly using modelling techniques – particularly digital modelling – as design tools, but includes provision for additional fees to be charged where the type and/or number of illustrations requested by the client exceeds that which the architect would normally provide.
