Communication is an important part of securing payment of invoices. Issuing a fee forecast for all project stages at the commencement of a project allows the client to cash flow the project and to pay each invoice on time as per the client/architect agreement.

Sometimes it can be difficult to obtain payment of invoices and extra measures need to be taken. Below are examples to support your right to be paid:

• entering into a client and architect agreement which allows you to withdraw the owner's copyright license if you are not paid
• taking a deposit before doing any work
• resorting to the Security of Payments legislation (where applicable)
• asking the court to make an order for the owner to pay you.
