The National Construction Code (NCC) is written and maintained by the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) on behalf of the Australian State and Territory governments, and was established under an Inter-Government Agreement in 1994. The NCC is a performance-based code for building and plumbing, comprising:
- NCC Volume One – Building Code of Australia for Class 2 to 9 buildings
- NCC Volume Two – Building Code of Australia for Class 1 and Class 10 buildings
- NCC Volume Three – Plumbing Code of Australia
The NCC is amended every three years. This amendment schedule aims to reduce red tape and provide industry with higher levels of certainty about the regulation. Less frequent changes mean the industry has a better chance of being abreast of the current requirements in the code.
The 2019 edition for adoption on 1 May 2019 is now available.
