The Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Peter Coaldrake Education Precinct, designed by Wilson Architects and Danish firm Henning Larsen Architects, is a dedicated teaching and learning facility for the Faculty of Education, used to educate the next generation of teachers.
The design targeted the equivalent of a Green Star 5 Star – Design & As Built v1.1 rating and was modelled on predicted reduced energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions compared to reference benchmark building targets. Building services include a 75 kW solar array, water harvesting and bioretention along the pedestrianised campus Ring Road. A central atrium integrates nature, biophilic principles and environmentally sustainable design into the building fabric.
This case study is part of a new series that explores sustainable design in practice, responding to the themes of Integration, Community, Country, Water, Economy, Energy, Well-being, Resources, Change and Discovery.
